ASI Receives $2500 from the WFCU Community Donations Fund

On Tuesday, April 28, Autism Services Inc. received $2500 from the WFCU Donations Fund. A total of $25,000 was given to 20 organization from the Windsor-Essex community. The $2500 will go toward the purchase of classroom iPads for the Bruce Awad Summer Program. Read more about the 2015 WFCU Community Fund recipients in the Windsor Star.

Local Schools and Businesses Promote Autism Awareness

During the month of April many local schools and businesses highlighted autism awareness in a variety of ways. Some held special events and others sold Autism Awareness bracelets. ASI and the families we support are sincerely grateful to the following schools, businesses and individuals for donating the proceeds of their efforts to the Bruce Awad Summer Program: Belle River District High School, Essex Public School, A.V. Graham Public School, Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School, Prince Edward Public School, Hengl Scott Financial Partners Inc., Helou Service Market, the Shepard Family, and Dairy Queen Devonshire Mall.

Thank you to the students and staff at St. Joseph's Catholic High School for their tremendous efforts in organizing the Amy's Autism Awareness Campaign. Amy Wagner was a St. Joseph's student and a support worker for ASI that died in a tragic accident in March 2012. To honour Amy's memory they hold an annual event to raise money and awareness for autism. The money raised is then donated to the Bruce Awad Summer Program. This year the students raised $1.041!

Hengl, Scott Financial Partners and McTague Law Firm Raise Funds for ASI

Hengl Scott Financial Partners Inc. held their second "Master" Your Short Game fundraiser for ASI on April 9. A total of $1500 was raised and will be split between Autism Services and the Humane Society. Thank you to Hengl Scott and everyone who participated.

The Staff and Partners at McTague Law Firm held a fundraiser on World Autism Day and raised $245 for ASI. ASI greatly appreciates the generosity both local business. Their efforts will help the families and individuals with autism that ASI supports.

Thank You Green Shield Canada Employees!

A big thank you once again, to the staff of the Windsor office of Green Shield Canada. Each Friday is designated as Dress Down Day and employees participate in making a $2.00 donation that is taken through payroll deduction. The money contributed each week is then donated to various community service agencies and charities that are suggested by the employees. ASI is grateful to the employees of Green Shield Canada for their donation of $1,452 which will help support the Summer Program.

Study on Familial Role Looking for Participants

This University of Windsor graduate study is looking for young adult (17-25 years old) siblings of individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in an online survey as part of a Master's project. The thesis is exploring young adults' perceptions about their role towards their sibling(s) and parents, as well as examining their response and management of stress and their emotional functioning. Thank You Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland

Thank you to the members of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland for their donation of $500 to the Bruce Awad Summer Program. A luncheon was held on February 17th, 2015 to present funds to a number of local charities. ASI is grateful for being selected as a supporting charity.

NEW: T9-1-1 Texting for the DHHSI Community in Windsor

Individuals who are part of DHHSI (deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired) community may register with their wireless service provider to have access to this service. This service will be available in Windsor in December 2014. For details and other important information about this service please see Text with T9-1-1 brochure.

Family Services Windsor

Family Services Windsor provides advocacy, planning and support work for adults with developmental disabilities living in the community. They now offer Psychological Assessment Services available in French and English. Assessment services include: Educational/Academic Psychological Assessments for Children/Youth, Educational/Intellectual Psychological Assessments for Adults and Psychological and Risk Assessments for Developmental Services Ontario for Adults. Canadian Tire Money

ASI is collecting Canadian Tire money. Save up your Canadian Tire money and donate it to the 2013 Bruce Awad Summer Program.
