Library Resources

There are over 900 items that make up the Autism Resource Library collection. The resources have been specially selected to assist families, caregivers, students, educations and other professions on the subject of autism spectrum disorders. We have many items for adults as well as resources for children and individuals with ASD. Below are links to lists of all the library resources sorted by Title and Category. Please browse the collection and call us if you would like to reserve any of the items listed.

We currently have seven types of resource formats. You will see this in the library Number listed. Below is the key to help you find the resource type you're looking for.

  • LB - Book
  • LV - DVD
  • LT - Toy
  • LS - Software

You will also see some letters before many resource types. ASO indicates that the material is the property of Autism Ontario Windsor-Essex Chapter and TVCC indicates the material is the property of Thames Valley Children Centre. These agencies have provided ASI with their library resources in order to keep the material at one central location.

Teacher's Resources

Thames Valley Children Centre has provided a number of their School Support Program Resources including the Student Awareness Kit, the Visual Strategies Kit, P.E.E.R. Pals Mediated Program Kit, the Transition Planning Kit, the Reinforcement Kit, Camps on Track Peer-Mediated Social Skills Program and more. Teachers are encouraged to borrow these materials for classroom use. Most of these resources are too large to be delivered through the inter school courier system. See School Support Resource list here. If you would like more information please email or call 519-966-7283.

Lending Library Overview

The ASI Library was established in October 2004 with approximately 100 resources. Today we house over 900 autism related items available for lending. In addition to books we also have DVDs, Books on CD, educational toys, games and software available to borrow for a three week loan period. Library users are welcome to stay and use the specialized computer software such as Boardmaker to create choice boards and picture communication schedules. We also have available a computer with internet access, a printer and a laminator (for a min. charge). Teachers can access most library material through the inter school courier system (please call for details).

Lending Library Policy

There are no borrowing fees or memberships required. You are required to fill out a registration form and sign a lending policy agreement prior to borrowing items. We do limit the number of resources that an individual can borrow at one time. The lending period is generally three weeks and renewals are permitted as long as there are no requests for the material. We require notification if you would like to renew your material. We currently do not charge overdue fines but we ask that you kindly return the material by the due dates so that other individuals can benefit from the resources. If material is not returned in a timely manner you will be contacted. If material is not returned or is returned damaged you will be invoiced for the replacement costs.
