Autism Ontario (Provincial) 2017 Summer Funding - Apply by June 2, 2017!

The 2017 One-to-One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund is available to Ontario families of children or youth with ASD who retain the services of a one-to-one support worker for their child to attend a community summer camp or summer program. Reimbursements will be provided based on a random selection made from all eligible applicants who apply between May 1 and June 2, 2017. Click here to apply



Autism Ontario (Local) – Windsor Essex 2017 Summer Funding - Apply by June 10, 2017!

Autism Ontario – Windsor Essex Summer Funding offers financial support to individuals (of all ages) with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families. Applications must be submitted by 12pm June 10th, 2017. Click here for more information and to apply online.

PLEASE NOTE: Approval of your application will be determined by the local Chapter Leadership Council of Autism Ontario which requires the completion of the participation requirement within the year. For more details please contact the local office at 519-250-1893 or by email.



Focus on Youth Student Employment

Students in grades 11 or 12 at the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board interested in working at the 2017 Bruce Awad Summer Program are encouraged to apply through the Focus on Youth program offered by your school board. Please visit the WECDSB website for details here. On-line student applications will be accepted until noon Friday, May 26, 2017. General inquiries about the Focus on Youth Summer Initiative can be forwarded to focusonyouth@wecdsb.on.ca.

Please note that ASI can only hire FOY students through the Catholic School Board. FOY students at the Public School Board will have opportunities at other local non-profit agencies.

Classroom Fund UPDATE $6,160

As of May 25, 2017 we have raised $6,160 towards our goal! Thank you to UNIFOR Local 444 Social Justice Fund for the generous $2,500 donation! April was Autism Awareness Month and many local groups showed their support by having fundraisers and raising awareness about autism and the the Bruce Awad Summer Program. All of us at ASI and the families that attend the Summer Program are grateful to the following for their generous support: Green Shield Canada, Tyler Campbell and students at Southwood Public School, Cypher Systems, Barb Sghaier and the students are AV Grahram Public School, and Peyton Kennette and the 100 Kids Who Care Windsor. Over $3500 was raised. Thank you!

ASI is looking for volunteers with a business or marketing/fundraising background as well members of the community to serve on the Board of Directors. We also have two vacant Board positions for an immediate relative of a child with ASD. You must be 18 years or older and reside in Windsor or Essex County. Please email your resume for consideration. Autism Registry for Windsor

Link to the Windsor Police Autism Registry The Autism Registry is the result of a partnership between the Windsor Police Services and Autism Services Inc. The Registry promotes communication and gives police quick access to critical information about a registered person with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in a police emergency. The Autism Registry is for individuals of all ages that reside in the City of Windsor and have ASD. For more information and to access the Online Autism Registry click here.

For residents outside of Windsor -- some Essex County Municipalities may have Wandering Persons Lists (eg. LaSalle). Please inquire with your Municipal Office or you local Police Services.

Library and Office Hours:

Please Note: The Office and Library will be closed on Friday May 26 and Tuesday, May 30. Office hours are 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday (closed for lunch between 12 and 1pm). Autism Merchandise for Sale

We have a variety of autism awareness merchandise available for purchase at the ASI office. Items include new key chains, lanyards, magnets, silicone bracelets, and more. Summit Centre 20th Reunion

The Summit Centre for Preschool children with Autism are inviting all current and former families, volunteers and staff to attend, reminisce and reunite with old friends. Structured Learning - Workshop

Autism Ontario Windsor Essex in collaboration with the GECDSB are offering a free workshop on Saturday June 10th starting at 9 until 11:30am at the Gino Marcus Centre, 1168 Drouillard Rd. Learn about a proven ABA-based strategy to help support students with ASD, developmental disabilities, and students who would benefit from a highly structured approach to learning. Partners For Planning Free Webinars

Partners for Planning logo
The Partners for Planning Resource Network offers a variety of free online webcasts to help families help their loved one with a disability live their best life and plan for their future. ASD Social Club

This club is for adults (18plus) with high functioning Autism/Aspergers who do not require 1:1 support. Events will be organized each month. Individuals must be able to stay on their own. Contact Autism Ontario at 519-250-1893 or email here to sign-up and for more details.


Community Living Essex Presents Dance Nights

For youth and adults (16 years and up) with developmental disabilities (accompanied with a caregiver or family member if needed). Dances are sponsored by the McGregor Squirettes of Mary under the guidance of Community Living Essex and take place once per month at the Knights of Columbus Hall in McGregor on Fridays from 6:30 until 10pm. Cineplex Sensory Friendly Screenings

NEW DAY AND TIME. Tuesday mornings starting at 9:30 until 11am at Ska-na Family Learning Centre Ontario Early Years Centre, 1684 Ellrose Ave. An interactive program designed for children ages 3-6 with ASD and their caretakers. Adult Sensory Reading Circle
